ARMAMENT ENGINEERING

Department of Armament Engineering imparts academic inputs, both theoretical and practical to all the courses related to armament engineering. In addition to highly qualified and experienced Department members, the Department has three equipment study divisions and one Armament Research Cell.

Research Areas

• Modelling, Simulation and Optimisation of Armament Systems
• Launch & Flight Dynamics
• Remotely Controlled Weapon Systems
• Projectile Aerodynamics

award of M.Tech degree, besides teaching the various specialized courses run by the Institute.
The Department guides graduate, post-graduate and Ph.D. students of different colleges / universities for their project / dissertation work. Various short intensive courses and CEPs in the relevant areas are conducted by the department to ensure exchange of knowledge and interaction between researchers and scientists.
The Department offers R&D consultancy in the field of Lasers & Fiber Optics to promote contact and to be of service to industries, government and civic organizations.

M. Tech. (Lasers & Electro-optics)

Syllabus covers the wide range of topics including:
Fiber Optics
Nonlinear Optics, Holography and Optical Signal Processing
Laser Engineering
Military and General Applications of Lasers

Second year is fully dedicated for The Dissertation/Project Work on the topic related to the field of Lasers and Fiber Optics, which has relevance to Defence in general.

Thrust Areas of Research

Laser System Development
Department has designed and developed various high efficiency solid sate lasers and high power CO2 laser.

Equipment Study Division: Artillery

The Artillery Division has light, field and medium guns, howitzer and Air Defence guns

The Ammunition Division has various models of ammunitions, both kinetic energy and chemical energy category pertaining to light, field and medium guns, howitzer, AD guns, small arms, light and heavy mortars, rocket launchers, battle tanks and other hand held weapons.

The Department has recently established an Armament Research Cell (ARC) with state of the art facilities. Software development of various armament related projects are being developed in the cell. The projects are being undertaken from other DRDO labs, Ordnance factories, armed forces and paramilitary forces.

Hardware of these projects is also being developed by the Department.

One of the students’ projects, Remotely Controlled Weapon Station, a product of ARC is shown below.

A Department undertakes collaborative Research with Sister DRDO Labs / Estt, DGOF and DGQA in the form of Sponsored Projects and provides Technical Consultancies for Failure Investigations, Product Improvements etc.
