ELECTRONICS

    Department of Electronics

The Department of Electronics is responsible for imparting training to various courses in all aspects of Armament Electronics. For effective training, the Department is divided into three major departments, viz. Microwave, Microprocessor and embedded system and communication Engineering. Each of these departments are having laboratory facilities set up to augment the classroom teaching as well as to enable the Department members to pursue research activities in their areas of interest..

    Microwave Engineering Department

Microwave laboratory is well equipped to undertake R&D work from VHF to K.U Band (30 MHz to 40 GHz). The Laboratory has the following sophisticated equipment:

  • S-X & Ka Band Test Benches
  • Micro strip Line Test Module
  • Synthesized Signal Generators(10MHz-22 GHz)
  • Frequency Counters & VSWR Meters
  • Vector & Scalar Network Analyzers (50MHz-13.5GHz)

With the above facilities, the characterization of Microwave Materials, Devices & systems is being carried out for the following parameters:-
  • S-parameters
  • Power & Attenuation
  • Frequency
  • Radar Reflectivity
  • Antenna Radiation pattern
  • Permeability, Permittivity, Dielectric Constant & Loss tangent of Microwave substrate materials.

    Microprocessor Laboratory

The laboratory is well equipped to give hands on training to the students on Digital and Analog Circuits and different types of Microprocessors and Microcontrollers. Major facilities include:

  • Digital Trainer and System Designer Kit
  • Digital and Linear IC Tester
  • Microprocessor 8085, 8086 Kits with PC downloading facility
  • Monitor based line assembler + peripherals like EPROM programmer, Stepper motor, ADC/DAC.
  • DSP workstation

  • Microprocessor 8051 Kits with PC downloading facility

    Advanced Microcontroller Laboratory

    Major facilities:

  • 8096, 89C51, 8031 and Microchip PIC 16F877 Microcontroller Kits with Hyper terminal downloading facility
  • 80196 Simulator and Emulator
  • Universal Programmer
  • PLC Mitsubishi with control Panel.

The Department can undertake application specific Microcontroller project for Industry Educational Institutes and R&D Labs.

Communication Engineering Department

Communication laboratory is well equipped with all types of Analog and Digital Electronics such as Signal Generator (up to 6GHz), Function generator (250MHz) Oscilloscopes, VTVMs , Digital Communication trainer etc.

EMI/EMC Test Facilities

The EMI/EMC laboratory has established facilities which can be utilized for per compliance testing of system, subsystem and component label EMC for EMI standards such as CISPER,FCC,VDE etc. The facilities include :-

  • Spectrum Analyser –HP 8593E Freq. 9 KHz to 22 GHz
  • EMI Test receiver-R&S Model ESPC
Freq. 9 KHz to 2.5 GHz with computer operated software ESPC K-1
  • Standard EMI Test Antennas:-
    • Biconical (20-200 MHz)
    • Log periodic(200 -1000 MHz)
    • Log Spiral (200 -1000 MHz)
    • Loop Antenna (9 KHz to 30 MHz) Electric and Magnetic Field probes
    • Current probes and LISN Network
    Areas Of Project/ Research Work
The Department, along with student officers undertakes the project work, which is of the interest to Three Services as well as DRDO. The projects/research works are being undertaken in the following fields :-
  • Microcontrollers & Microprocessors
  • Microwave Components and Antennas
  • Communication Engineering
  • VLSI Designing
  • The Department conducts Short term courses on EMI/EMC every year. In addition The Electronics Stream of one important training program POST INDUCTION TRANING SCHOOL (POINTS) for freshly recruited Scientists ‘B’ s is co-ordinated by this Department.

Post Graduate Students from Local Engg. Colleges & Universities do their M.E/MTech Dissertation work under the guidance of the Department staff.
