Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) is an autonomous body with Deemed University status. The present structure provides more academic liberty to excel and achieve new heights. In its journey for excellence, the Institute has chalked out a comprehensive training schedule. Apart from the regular postgraduate courses, the Institute is keen in conducting Continuing Education Programmes (CEPs). For the year 2008-09, the institute conducted 07 such programmes in which 176 participants from 74 organisations were benefitted.
For the year 2009-10, the institute plans to conduct 10 Training Programmes in the diverse areas of science and technology viz. Combat Vehicles, Smart Polymers, Cisco Network. These programmes are open to public sector, private, and other organizations besides organizations under the Ministry of Defence. Further the institute offers customized training Programmes in various discipline of science and technology on demand. For the year 2008-09, the institute conducted 07 such programmes in which 120 participants were benefitted.
I am certain that this booklet, which contains details of the Training Programmes to be conducted at DIAT during the academic year 2009-10, will be well received. We hope that esteemed educational institutions, research and development organization and other agencies will avail the services of our Institute. Introduction
The Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) is a premier research and training institute under the Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO). The Institute conducts courses for the officers of Armed Forces, DRDO, Defence Quality Assurance, Defence Ordnance Factories, Defence Aeronautical Quality Assurance and other Public Sector Undertakings under the Ministry of Defence. Besides awarding the Postgraduate Degrees the Institute has a strong background of organizing Continuing Education Programmes in various branches of science and technology. During the last two years, the Institute has conducted 19 such programmes. Titles of these courses and the participating organizations are given in Annexure I and II. These courses are open to the members of academia, executives from the industries and students of other academic institutions at a nominal cost.
Further, the Institute welcomes the requirement of organizing Customized Training Programmes in various fields of science and technology, on demand. For any of such demand you may contact Chairperson, HRD Council, DIAT, Pune.

Objectives
The broad objectives of these programmes are as follows :
• To share the most updated information and develop skill of problem solving in the designated area of science and technology.
• To provide a platform at regional and national level for the participants to come together and share their knowledge and experience in the relevant area of science and technology.
• To discuss the research and development related problems.
These objectives are generally achieved through Lectures, Discussions, Case Studies, Demonstrations and visits to various Technical Facilities.
Training Programme For 2009 – 10
During the period April 2009 to March 2010, 10 programmes will be conducted at the Institute. However short courses may also be arranged on demand on mutually convenient dates within the above period. The topics of the programmes along with the dates are given.
Registration Fee
Participants from organizations under Ministry of Defence will not be charged registration fees. Registration charges per week for other participants are as follows :
• Executives/Officers of Industries and R&D
Institutions : Rs. 4000/-
• Members of Academia
(Professors/Readers/Lecturers) : Rs. 2000/-
(iii) Students of Academic Institutes : Rs. 1000/-
Intending participants will have to send the request in the attached registration form at least 10 days prior to the beginning of the programme.
Mode of Payment
All payments should be made through a Crossed Demand Draft/ Local Cheque from any Nationalized bank/ SBI drawn in favour of Vice Chancellor, DIAT (DU), payable at Pune.
Certificate
On successful completion of the programme the participants are awarded a certificate by the Registrar and Program Director of the Institute.
Eligibility Criteria
The programmes are designed to suit persons who are in the academic institutions, R&D organizations and industries. Minimum qualification of B.E./B.Tech in engineering and M.Sc. in science is desirable.
Accommodation
The climate of the surroundings is pleasant with moderate temperature throughout the year. All the students are provided with lodging facilities. The officers’ Mess has excellent boarding arrangements. Generally family accommodation is not provided for short duration courses. Intending participants should indicate the requirement of accommodation at the time of registration. The institute has wide range of indoor and outdoor recreational facilities. Medical facilities are provided by the Resident Medical Officer in the Campus. Shopping, Banking (SBI ATM & AXIS BANK ATM centre) and Postal Facilities are also available in the Campus. Participants are requested to follow the Officers’ Mess regulations and dress-code (Tucked shirt-trousers and pair of leather shoes for Gents).
