The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian government-sponsored public service program conducted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India and popularly known as NSS. The scheme was launched in Gandhiji’s Centenary year, 1969, and aimed at developing students’ personalities through community service. NSS is a voluntary association of young people at the Colleges, Universities level working for a campus-community linkage.

In DIAT (D.U.), the NSS programme was introduced in the year 2017. The Vice-Chancellor inaugurated the NSS Centre at DIAT (D.U.) on 14th November 2017. On this occasion, the 300 Plantation of Saplings programme was organized.

Benefit: 

National Service Scheme (NSS) is beneficial to both students and society in various means. NSS helps the student to grow individually and also as a group. It makes the students confident, develops leadership skills, and gain knowledge about different people from different walks of life.

Activities:

  • Adoption of Villages. 
  • Contacting Village Leaders. 
  • Survey of the Village 
  • Identification of Problem/s 
  • Organization of rural camp
  • Organization of health camp
  • Completion of Projects.  
  • Evaluation of the Project
  • Adoption of Slums.  

Joining of NSS: Students can join the NSS scheme by registering themselves via the concerned Programme coordinator. However, they must be bonafide students of the DIAT (D.U.). The NSS is a voluntary scheme, and students can enroll themselves from 1st year M.Tech /Ph.D.

NSS Day: NSS was formally launched on 24 September 1969, the birth centenary year of the Nation’s Father. Therefore, 24 September is celebrated every year as NSS Day with appropriate programmes and activities.
