(Brief Description / Abstract) :

Dr. K Balasubramanian is working as a Professor, in the Department of  Metallurgical & Materials Engineering at  DIAT (DU), Ministry of Defence, Government of India, since 2010. Before the Professorship, have worked as Research Manager (Materials Technology) for a most reputed European Research Organisation, UK Materials Technology Research Institute (UK MatRI), Pera Innovation Park, Melton Mowbray, the UK, for 12 years. He has  22 years of research, academic, work experience, and demonstrated competence in creativity to promote technological needs with high levels of quality, a high degree of commitment, diligence, and innovation. The outcome of such hard work helped him in receiving the most prestigious award twice at the UK MatRI, UK (award for technical Excellence 2007 and 2010). He received the most prestigious Hind Rattan Award, 2010, for outstanding contribution in the areas of Science and Technology, Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Government of India. He has a rich experience in the evaluation of DTI (UK), TSB (UK), FP6, and FP 7 European research programs, Brussels, Belgium. I have received the Prestigious Best Researcher award for the Year 2014 by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, for outstanding contribution and development of "Novel Hybrid Ablative Composite as Thermal Protection Systems for Re-entry Vehicles." In 2016, 2017, and 2018, he received an Innovator Award, i.e., Technology Innovation in Petrochemicals and Downstream Plastic Processing Industry, by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India for the topic titled 'Biomimicking Ecofriendly Superhydrophobic coatings,' 'Recycling of Plastics and Rubber waste' and 'Polymer Design' respectively. Recently, the university assigned the additional responsibility of Dean (Student Affairs) of DIAT(DU), Pune.

  • In 2010, he joined as Associate Professor. He was promoted as Professor in 2014 in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DU), DRDO,  Ministry of Defence, GoI,  Pune, Maharashtra. He also served as Head of the Department of Applied Chemistry, Metallurgical & Materials Engineering, and Department of Technology Management. He is presently working as Professor and Dean (Student Affairs).
